The schools in Kenya have been closed down since March 15th. TODAY the Kenyan government announced its phased re-opening beginning Oct. 12th.
All schools in Kenya are overcrowded including ours. All schools had inadequate handwashing stations, no protective measures and the list goes on. We took immediate action in March educating our staff and children. Investments were made in touchless handwashing stations, expanding class space using other existing buildings, reducing class sizes, and implementing all the standard mitigation efforts expected during a pandemic.
The last hurdle we have is the transportation of students. We were taking risks before COVID with too many kids in our two buses but now social distancing requires us to make multiple pick-ups starting from 5 am to 7:30 am and the same procedure in the afternoon bringing many kids home early evening.
We must have a bus or we cannot provide safe or timely transport and we risk losing some of our best students.
It normally takes 2-3 months to import a chassis, then construct the bus itself around the ISUZU chassis. We have found a NEW 47 passenger bus available today!
I woke up this morning at 4 with a bus on my mind and I began to pray to believe God would provide, then I get the announcement that school is in fact opening in 6 days. YES, we need a miracle. The bus is available at a cost of $69,730.00 (first come, first serve). Can you help? The additional bus will allow us to keep our enrollment of 700 students and improve our chances of giving students and those who care for them a safer environment.
I am believing that we can join hands to secure this bus before the opportunity is lost. Will you be a part of making this happen? I am hoping a few of our partners can help us to seize this opportunity.
The children are the best investment we can make to help Kenya prosper and education is a critical key that opens the door of hope.
This could be the seed that creates momentum today. I am believing it will be matched quickly.
Thank you for considering and for agreeing with me in prayer that God will meet our needs.
